As writers, we do draw from our lives, and it is incredible how much we can discover in the process. I'm sure there are countless more stories waiting to be told, whether you remember every detail or not. Your writing is a gift to your readers, and we appreciate the depth and authenticity you bring. Keep sharing those moments and stories with us, even if they come in fragments. We're here to read.
Winston, it's thanks to you I'm here on Substack. I entered your newsletter challenge and have thoroughly enjoyed writing monthly these past two years. I look forward to writing each submission. Thanks so much for your inspiration and for loyally reading me.
For me it's not usually the willpower that's the struggle, it's either the memory or that my ideas involve people who don't want their lives spoken about.
Well, I certainly hope you have many more stories to tell and that I'm around to read them. Thanks for another great article, my friend. I think there's a little fiction in every "true" story because it's what we remember about it. I always try to be true to the story, but I'm sure my memory is imperfect. Now you have me thinking...as usual. 😊
You raise a great point, Randy. What is fiction? Something that didn't happen regardless of the author's perception or only that which is not perceived by the author? Perhaps this would make a good question for one of my "This or That" challenges. Just a thought.
I started writing in 2021 as well - my issue these days is finding inspiration to write - probably from the lack of taking regular breaks and recalibrating - another reason could be I am not interested in writing just about anything - it has to be something the audience would want to read - so that requires a bit of research as well 💙
I still struggle with finding my niche. Readers love my stories about Huey, my kitten, but as hard as I beg him to do something silly or noteworthy, he continues to do his own thing at will. Lol.

Having a good memory and enough willpower to do it when the feeling hits are two of the essential qualities of a good writer.
