Stephen King once said, “I wrote a book.” Now, I can say the same. “My books have won awards.” Stephen mused. My newly published children’s picture book, HUEY, NO! stands patiently in line.
The day started as normally as any other. I checked the stove for unwanted heat and double-checked the front door, ensuring I had locked it — all ordinary signs of aging. Next, I headed to work, leaving behind a pet-less condo that, within hours, would never feel lonely again.
My workday felt short as I entered the shelter and met Huey, a twelve-week-old tuxedo rescue kitten; noticing how well we meshed as he melted in my arms. That day of innocence was short-lived once Huey came home. This adorable, mischievous feline had anything but lazing around on his mind.
From emptying full tissue boxes to unravelling toilet paper rolls, Huey was just getting started. No cupboard or appliance was safe without checking inside for a furry visitor.
Whenever my husband bent over to feed my hungry muse or to tie his work boots, the oversized kitten climbed onto Ed’s back.
But these silly antics weren’t the half of it, so I wrote about them. I turned Huey’s mischievous shenanigans into a delightfully fun children’s picture book entitled HUEY, NO! for children aged one to five. But don’t be fooled. Cat and humour lovers are enjoying this book, too.
As Huey hangs from the refrigerator, swims in the bathtub, and hides in the clean laundry, this true, slightly embellished story features a mother and daughter modelled after my eldest daughter and granddaughter.
It’s hilariously funny and interactive as readers of all ages can’t help chanting, HUEY, NO! along with Mom. When young Olive makes the time to play with the inquisitive kitten, both learn that playtime is more fun with the people you love.
Young children will enjoy finding objects strategically placed throughout the pages while they learn about the joys of pet ownership, friendship, and fun.
I set out to write this story for my grandchildren and asked my artistic mother to illustrate the book to keep it in the family. The finished product has been so well-received by the public that it’s now available on Amazon.
My early childhood education and clown days have not gone to waste. I’ve used my expertise and creativity to fulfill a lifelong dream of writing an entertaining children’s picture book. And it won’t be my last.
Thanks to Huey, who continues to be Ed’s and my greatest source of entertainment, our home is full of feline joy and love.
I hope you’ll look at my Amazon page, consider adding a copy to your home library or giving one (or more) as a gift, and if I’m lucky, you’ll write a review. I’m confident this book won’t disappoint you.
Did you know that currently, the best way to launch a book is through self-promotion? Thank you for indulging me in my newest success. The dream continues, and I hope to see HUEY, NO! win multiple awards.
Are my dreams too large?
Not at all. We must believe it to achieve it.
Stephen King’s success had to start somewhere.
I’m now trying on his shoes.
You can find HUEY, NO! on Amazon. I’m attaching the American and Canadian links; however, the book is sold in many marketplaces.
This newsletter is the second one this month to share my exciting news.
Come enjoy the fun!
I can’t wait to see you in June.
Who's with you in the photo, Karen? Congratulations again, on the book!
